What to Wear:

Warm layers, gloves and hats. Wool socks and sturdy shoes are helpful. Nights can be very cold. Bring a flashlight. We will provide red cellophane covers to protect your night vision.

  • Saturday, 5/11/2019 - Astronomy Day Planet Walk Hike
    Time: 10 AM - 12 Midnight (at -)
    • Please join us for a guided hike along the Planet Walk with RFO docents. Along the way they will speak about each planet in our solar system, with chances to view local wildflowers along the way. This hike come with passports booklets for all participants, where you will receive a stamp for each planet you reach. There will be two different options for this hike: 1, travel along Meadow trail to Brushy Peaks until you reach Uranus, then head back on Hillside trail. This is a 2 mile loop with 250 ft elevation gain. Then option 2, Do the full Planet Walk Loop to Pluto of 6.3 miles with a 1100 ft elevation gain traveling along Brushy Peaks to Grey Pine and back through Meadow. Cost is $10 per person parking fees still apply.

  • Saturday, 5/18/2019 - Planet Walk (en espaol)
    Time: 10 AM - 1 PM (at Outside RFO)
    • In collaboration with Robert Ferguson Observatory, our celebration of Day of the Child and Astronomy Day include a hike that follows a scaled-down walk through the solar system. Our cosmic voyage begins outside the observatory at 10 AM. We will take Meadow Trail to Brushy Peaks Trail until we reach Uranus, stopping along each planet for a small docent-led talk. Advanced hikers will have the option to continue until reaching Pluto for a total of 6.3 miles. Parking fees apply. We recommend bringing water and a lunch.
