What to Wear:

Warm layers, gloves and hats. Wool socks and sturdy shoes are helpful. Nights can be very cold. Bring a flashlight. We will provide red cellophane covers to protect your night vision.

  • Saturday, 7/11/2020 - Night Sky Trails
    Time: 9:30 PM - 11:30 PM (at -)
    • The Robert Ferguson Observatory, after a long closure due to COVID-19, will be hosting a Star Party (without telescopes) on July 11th. Guests will be in small groups with individual RFO docents and treated to an hour long laser guided tour of the constellations.     Time: 9 PM - 11 PM (at -)
    • Bring Your Own Binoculars and Chair! This is a guided tour into the wonders of the night sky that are visible through common binoculars. Guests will station their chairs at socially distanced locations in the parking lot outside the observatory and knowledgeable docents with laser pointers will guide guests to the hidden secrets of the night sky. Expect to see double stars, open star clusters, globular clusters, Jupiter and its moons!

    • Presentations on astronomical topics are given in the classroom throughout the course of the evening. Starting at dusk, the Observatory's three main telescopes are open for your viewing. Docents set up additional telescopes in front of the building. Friendly and knowledgeable docents are available to answer your questions.
