This relaxed, immersive program is perfect for beginners, casual skywatchers, and anyone who wants to discover how much celestial beauty can be seen without owning a telescope.

We’ll begin the evening outdoors under the dark skies of Sugarloaf Ridge State Park with a guided tour of the heavens. Our knowledgeable docents will point out major constellations, share the stories behind them, and highlight star clusters, nebulae, and other objects that shine beautifully through ordinary binoculars. It’s amazing how much the night sky opens up when you know where to look, and we’ll teach you exactly how to find your way.

Bring your own binoculars and a comfortable chair to settle in as we learn techniques for steady viewing, sky navigation, and making the most of your equipment. You’ll gain confidence in observing from your own backyard, campground, or anywhere you travel. After exploring the sky with binoculars, we’ll head into the observatory to take a closer look through RFO’s powerful telescopes. You’ll see how the objects you spotted earlier burst into even greater detail, connecting your personal viewing experience with the larger world of astronomical observation.

Whether you’re brand-new to stargazing or simply eager to expand your skills, this event offers a welcoming, informative, and awe-inspiring night under the stars.
