Event Overview:

Kick off the night with a short, guided hike along a portion of our captivating Planet Walk, where you’ll encounter scale models of many of our solar system’s planets, each with it own unique story. The flat and scenic journey to Saturn and back is approximately 1.2 miles in total. Did you know: each step in our planet walk is equivalent to 2.3 million miles through our solar system!

After the walk, return to the Robert Ferguson Observatory to warm up with a cup of hot cocoa and an in-depth stargazing session led by one of our experienced astronomers. The night sky tour blends science and storytelling, helping you appreciate the night sky in a whole new way.

Once the Star guide portion concludes, guests are welcome to continue observing through our telescopes for the remainder of the night. Viewing through the powerful observatory telescopes provides visitors a chance to get up-close views of the astronomical objects visible in the sky that month which could include the Moon’s craters, Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s moons, and distant galaxies. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and guide you through the night sky’s best features.

Whether you’re an avid stargazer or a curious beginner, Cosmos and Cocoa promises an evening filled with wonder and warmth.

This program is designed for families and guests of all ages who can comfortably enjoy a light hike and remain respectful and attentive while volunteers offer information. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring a white-light flashlight for this event only.
